SATURNIAN could appeal to every fan of symphonic music, because the bombastic mixture does not miss out orchestral gaudiness and captivating heaviness.
The vocals are really variable, including infernal screeches, heroic timbre, some choirs and an unobtrusive female voice. This rich mélange seems to be exhausting after a while, but SATURNIAN know to use all stylistic devices in right proportion. Consequently, we have the chance to listen to suspenseful compositions, which integrate heroic guitar solos; I cannot find direct hits that take you by storm, but many forceful rhythms like the one at the beginning of Aphotic show the way.
Multi-layer dramatic build-ups, short guitar solos as well as variable vocals form this album and some contained or massive parts add dynamics. I really enjoy the calm interplay Traces From The Past, ere the title-track Dimensions changes the mood completely and gives way to oppressing bombast. The longer the album lasts, the better I like the focused structures despite the overlong songs’ structures.
Dimensions is a beamy work, which overacts concerning orchestral elements and leaves an overloaded, effervescent and sometimes chaotic impression. In some cases, the artists manage to integrate more easy-going structures, but the detailed way of composing is not easy to digest. In all, I like the pompous, nearly cosmic mood and the felicitous vocal arrangements.
