At first, let me ask you one question: what do Ruthenium and SILENT LINE have in common? - Both are referring to the group of precious metal and both are unknown in many places!

Well, these Canadian musicians come around the corner with an ambitious concept album about a tortured island stuck in time, endangered to get worn away by the ocean. The centerpiece of this effort is formed by the split title track Shattered Shores, whose parts are closely connected by both music and lyrics.
SILENT LINE offers a vast amount of first-class guitar melodies, for a bigger part shredded chords dominate, but many acoustic guitars` adoptions care for harmony. Sometimes discreet orchestration expands the sound spectrum, like in the first track Frost Of The Night. Every now and then, an easy-going folk touch boosts the atmospheric density.
I really like the vocal presentation on this album, the aggressive style fits the mood just as the clear approach is natural and unconstrained. One of the most obvious brownie points on Shattered Shores are the egregious refrains, presented in very ear friendly manner, using many catch phrases, which resonate in my mind after the consumption of Shattered Shores. As a consequence, SILENT LINE shoots out a multitude of earworms, headed by mentioned title track. Shattered Shores I – Timeless Night uses the contrast of blast beats and melancholic parts, taking advantage of memorable lyrics, which can be yelled along after a short while. The mixture of various vocal styles is appreciated as well as the epic build up, which is anew taken to extremes with the second part A New Beginning, integrating some modern sounds and floating keyboard carpets. I like the symphonic part, augmenting and sheer exploding in its multi-layer instrumentation.
Pure harmony effuses the borne beginning of Summersong, just to get harshly contrasted by shredded chords and easy-going speed, broken by a very emotional chorus. This play of contrasts makes this record very suspense-packed and the aesthete is as enthused as the head banger inside my inner self.

This record excites through its homogeneity and at the same time the songs´ richness in tempo and rhythms, in addition to egregious refrains and calm spots for intensification. Therefore I hope that SILENT LINE´s notoriety will rise above the meager popularity of Ruthenium :) - so let´s drift to Shattered Shores, you will definitely enjoy this enthralling journey!
