Jana:
I can imagine it was a huge pressure on you as well...
Daray: Yes! But after this tour was another tour –
it was better...
Jana:
And since you entered VADER you took part in four releases meanwhile
it was Be Aware Of The Beast and The Beast in
2004, The Art Of War in 2005 and Impressions In Blood
in 2006. How was your first recording session with VADER? I
guess being a new member in such an established it's a high
pressure to do a good job...
Daray: Yeah this is really hard, because, you know, when
I am writing the songs like in VESANIA I am writing the
songs with Tommy, we are practicing, we are playing a lot before
the studio, but with VADER we work in studio. We made
it in studio, so it was I think it was very hard - a lot of
the songs were made from Peter and Peter told me I can't play
like this and here play like this, you know... it was not my
drums - it was more Peter's drums, ha ha ha.
Jana:
During your years with VADER do you think you influenced the
sound or the style of the band by your drums and if yes, in
which way?
Daray: eeh, which way? ...It's hm you kow I am still learning...
really! There are some people who say I am a good drummer but,
no, no I am still learning it. I am still looking for some new
music new parts of drums to form a kind of drum style...uh I
don't know what to say about this... *shrugs*
Jana:
What was the best experience you had during your time with VADER?
Something that happened during recording session or on tour
– what was the most special moment you got during this
time?
Daray: I don't know, I don't remember...
Jana:
Maybe first time touring the USA or something like this...?
Daray: First tour was very special, the first time being
in Japan for example and traveling a lot. First time I was feeling
like I saw it on a movie like „WOW!“
Jana:
Yeah I can imagine it is like living in a dream
Daray: Yeah, yeah, and of course when we were touring, we
were playing with a lot of popular musicians like Gene Hoglan,
like Flo Mounier from Cryptopsy, like Pete Sandoval... you know,
it was like saying *acting like shaking someone's hands* „Hello
I am Daray from Vader“ and „Oh, hello I am Pete
Sandoval“... hehehe.
Jana:
Ha ha ha I think it is great to meet the ones, that were your
idols when you were young and now you are face to face with
them. I can imagine it makes you proud that they now your name
now...
Daray: Yeah, yeah! Of course that's it...
Jana:
ok, what do you expect from your future time with VADER? Is
there anything that you want to have in future?
Daray: ah no, I want to record the new album very well,
I like to go for another tour, I hope it will be better, you
know, just about everything and that my drumming will get better
hehehe... I don't know, it is my job, so I have to do it - have
to play a lot, you know. We will see what will happen - I hope
that everything will be all right :)
Jana:
I think so... ok Daray, you was very young when you started
with VESANIA and you still continue with the band. I think this
not always easy to keep it alive and to find some time for it
since you are tight up on the road with VADER all the year.
How do you manage to do it?
Daray: It's really, really hard – now we have got
some problems to make some tour with VESANIA, because
when I am at home Tommy is with Behemoth on tour and when Tommy
is at home I am on tour with VADER, so soon we have to
make something... I remember the year 2006 when I was playing
like 210 shows - it was a lot - plus travel days... so it is
really, really hard but we'll see ... this is about my private
live and tours the same - this is hard to manage... *sighs*
Jana:
Why is VESANIA worth to do all this according to your other
commitments?
Daray: Why???
Jana:
Yeah, why?!
Daray: he he he *laughs* I don't know why – VESANIA
is my band, I like our band. You know, I and Tommy made this
band and we are still playing in this of course ... though we
are with VADER and Behemoth now...
Jana:
So you can be more creative in the things you do with VESANIA
because it's your own?
Daray:
Yeah, yeah, yes! - it's like our music. We joined bands which
have style. In VESANIA we would like to create a style
– „Vesaniastyle“ hahaha
Jana:
When you were young, how came you up with the idea to become
a drummer? Which drummers influenced you – did you have
any idols?
Daray: Yeah, I had a lot of idols, like I said: Gene Hoglan,
Pete Sandoval, Flo Mounier and Doc of course! I started playing
on drums when I was 14 or 13 - this is for 14 years now I think...
I remember when young - I was 6 - I remember me and Tommy because
we eeehm.... *guess he was searching for some English vocabulary*
Jana:
I have heard you know each other from the Elementary school...?
Daray: Yeah, yeah! - And I remember that band Europe, you
know, I remember listen to that and „Ah man I wanna become
a drummer somewhere in the future...“
Jana:
Really? It was Europe - the band Europe..??!
Daray: Yeah Europe!...
Jana:
And the song? The Final Countdown?
Daray: Yes! hahaha
Jana:
Hahaha and now you are playing Death Metal imagine that... this
is how things can come along...
Daray: *laughs*
Jana:
Ok, you are well known due to your business with VADER and VESANIA
- now the young drummers, who are practicing now, they have
a view on you that you are their idols and now it's you influencing
them... how do you feel about it?
Daray: *smiles bashful* I don't know how I feel about it,
hehehe, how to say, practice, practice, practice, everyday this
is the one way.
Jana:
Ah and why they do it they will become as fast and tight as
you are?
Daray: You know I never went to the musician school...
Jana:
You were just learning by doing?
Daray: Yes, so I just watched the drummers, like „ah!
- ok the drum-kit was like this, the cymbals like this“
... you know, I was just like copying - you know, make it like
a monkey and of course you have to play EVERY day and practice
everyday...
Jana:
Ok, talking about VESANIA again: VESANIA got some releases out
already. What is you favorite album of VESANIA?
Daray: The last album.
Jana:
Distractive Killusions...
Daray: Yes, it is the best! I am happy with the sound, with
the songs – it is really, really great and I am really,
really happy *smiles*
Jana:
And what's your favorite song from Distractive Killusions?
Daray: Hell Is For Children.
Jana:
But this is the slowest song...
Daray: Yeah, I think it is the best VESANIA song...
Jana:
Due to your drumming or due to the atmosphere of that song?
Daray: Atmosphere! The drumming there is very simple –
it's a simple piece...
Jana:
right, it really creates a creepy atmosphere and when I am listening
to it it's like causing goosebumps all the time, really great
yeah...
Is there one song in which you are most proud of your drumming?
Something like when you hear it you would say „This is
the best song I ever did with VESANIA“?
Daray: Puh! I think that this moment is still waiting for
me. Not yet!
Jana:
So you are a perfectionist? You are never satisfied with what
you did?
Daray: No, but yeah... I'd say the last album is ok, but
not perfect...
Jana:
So we will have to wait for the next one then?
Daray: Yes! - And me too hahaha.
Jana:
And until that the people should buy Distractive Killusions
which is out on Napalm Records since 2007 ... some last words
to VESANIA fans?
Daray: So hello from me of course from this tour with VADER
what can I say? I hope soon on tours!
Jana:
I hope, too... thank you very much Daray...
Daray: Thank you very much! :)
