GERMAN
DEATH METAL AT ITS BEST!!!!
Debauchery
- [di-baw-chuh-ree]
1. Excessive indulgence in sensual pleasures; intemperance.
2. Archaic. Seduction from duty, allegiance or virtue.
Now
that sounds like a whole lot of fun and games… and well
it is. But for this Stuttgart based death metal powerhouse,
it’s still all fun and games; with a whole lot of headbanging
good songs mixed in. Not so long ago the band released their
third release Torture Pit, which is a full-on
sludging death metal attack. After the release of the record
I sat down to chat with singer Thomas about his thoughts on
the new album, the Stuttgart metal scene, and how great it is
to be metal!
Ashley:
You guys have made quite a name for yourselves in your relatively
short history. Was there any time where you felt starstruck?
Thomas: No. We are definitely no rockstars. We are all
Death Metal Fans. That’s it.
Ashley:
After your first album Kill Maim Burn was released in
2003, you played shows with Hate Plow, Gangs Sound, Illdisposed,
Mystic Circle and Napalm Death. These bands are quite big! For
just having one album under your belts, that is quite a feat!
What was it like touring with these bands?
Thomas: Our second DEBAUCHERY show was
on the European Tour with Hate Plow. That was a little bit strange.
We as total newcomers toured with guys from Malevolent Creation
and Cannibal Corpse. Great. To tour with Naplam Death was also
very good. We were the only support act. And they had always a
shortcome of merchandise.
Ashley:
2004, Rage Of The Bloodbeast was released, it gained
you even more publicity that ever and now in 2005 you have released
Torture Pit, which was AMAZING! How was the recording
process for both of these albums? Where did you go to record them?
Thomas: Rage Of The Bloodbeast
was the first CD to record with Dani. So it was another kind of
working. On Kill Maim Burn I was alone.
Now we were two. We started in the studio where I recorded KMB.
The result was not satisfying. So we changed over to the House
Of Music Studio to finish it. Very good work. For Torture
Pit we entered from the beginning the House Of Music.
Dennis Ward recorded the CD, and he is really amazing. The sound
is perfect.
Ashley:
Can you describe any memorable moments in the studio?
Thomas: The solo where played by Tom Naumann (Primal
Fear / Sinner). He never listened to our record before and played
ten great solo in about four hours.
Ashley:
Are there any plans for a new album?
Thomas: We are working on new songs and in September
we will enter the House of Music again.
Ashley:
Are you planning on playing any shows anytime soon?
Thomas: Yes... many. Just check out on the homepage.
Ashley:
If you could choose any bands to play a show with, who would they
are and where would you play?
Thomas: AC/DC in Australia
Ashley:
What is the most memorable show you have ever performed?
Thomas: I think our show at Fuck The Commerce Festival.
It was a good show. I just can’t remember it... I was too
drunk. All Bringer Of Death Fests were also very good and the
whole Six Feet Under Tour was great.
Ashley:
What was the worst show you have ever performed?
Thomas: In Hamburg we had some bad concerts. Long journey,
no money, no people... except some Hip Hop fans.
Ashley:
What is the best show you have ever seen?
Thomas: Dee Snider on the Bang Your Head Festival.
Ashley:
Are any of the members of DEBAUCHERY involved in any side projects?
Thomas: Dani has Fecal God (Grindcore) and Chris is playing
by Malatesta (Grindcore)
Ashley:
Who are some of your favorite bands? Both, local and international.
Thomas: AC/DC; Judas Priest; Six Feet Under; Rammstein;
Accept; Cannibal Corpse......
Ashley:
What is the metal scene like in Stuttgart, DE?
Thomas: It’s ok.
Ashley:
Are there any local bands from you town that you enjoy seeing
or hanging out with?
Thomas: My Darkest Hate are a great Death Metal band.
Ashley:
Describe, in your own words, the sound of DEBAUCHERY.
Thomas: Groovy and brutal Death Metal. Most songs are
midtempo neck-breakers, but we also have some fast ones.
Ashley:
What are you top 5 favorite albums of all time?
Thomas: Judas Priest: Jugulator / Halford: live insurrection
/ AC/DC: Ballbreaker / AC/DC: double live / Six Feet Under: Maximum
Violence.
Ashley:
What are you top 5 favorite albums to headbang to?
Thomas: The same of course...
Ashley:
Is there anything you would like to say to your fans out there?
Thomas: You are the DEBAUCHERY Bloodpack! |
