LECHEROUS NOCTURNE is one of the biggest local bands in the Upstate, South Carolina metal scene. They have members in bands like Shaitan Mazar and Nile. They have released a self-titled full-length record and are creating havoc in the underground through the world with their signature brand of brutal technical metal. I had the chance to chat with Guitarist Christian on their thoughts on the local scene, how much metal music kicks ass, and their new album they are about to head off to record!

Ashley: Your self-titled release was self-produced on your own record label. What was that like and are you planning on signing any other bands?
Christian:
Actually it was beneficial because we got the release out, although we had to fold the record label for financial reasons, so we will not be signing other bands to that. We just created the label to release our own album.

Ashley: LECHEROUS NOCTURNE is a veteran in the Upstate, South Carolina metal scene; however, with all the screamo/emo hype over here, has that affected anything with LECHEROUS NOCTURNE? And what are your thoughts about that?
Christian:
I don’t think it has affected anything; we have been able to get quite a following. Screamo isn’t really what I’m into, but we have a mix of fans and we have sort of an understanding. They come to our shows and we go to theirs.

Ashley: Hoheinstein (vox) is also in another South Carolina veteran band, Shaitan Mazar, alongside ex-Nile member Chief; how is it working with him being in both projects? Does this ever pose as a problem with schedules?
Christian:
Yes, it has in the past. Shaitan Mazar is now not a band anymore so he is free to do LECHEROUS NOCTURNE full time. As far as Dallas (drums) playing for Nile we have problems with getting a drummer to play with us full time.

Ashley: Do you think being from such a small state, musical wise, has made your fanbase smaller than it could be somewhere else?
Christian:
Due to the internet age and a little gumption you can gather more than just your local scene with ease. Down here in the south there is not much to do, except play music and go to shows, so I don’t think there is any small lack of fans.

Ashley: What are your thoughts on the local music scene?
Christian:
It’s very good, I'm not actually from SC, I’m from Minneapolis, me being from a big city its impressive, its a bigger variety and a large scene for such a small area.

Ashley: I heard a rumor that your bassist played for Nile on their European tour. Is there any truth in this?
Christian:
Yes, in fact they approached me to do the dates; however I couldn't do it, so I suggested they use our bassist. He may also do their next headline tour.

Ashley: What are some of your favorite past-times? (e.g.-What do you do for fun?)
Christian:
We pretty much all enjoy playing this music, when we are together we just play the music.. Work and play metal, that’s all there is!

Ashley: Who are some of your favorite bands in the local scene? And, who are some of your favorite international bands?
Christian:
Local: Insedious Demise, Calus, South Paw International: Angel Corpse, Marduk, Dark Funeral, Gorguts, Immolation, Morbid Angel, mostly older stuff

Ashley: What/Who are some of your influences?
Christian:
Megadeth, Slayer, Testament, Immolation, Morbid Angel… Mostly the strong hitting vets. Working with Dallas who is also a guitar player has been a slight influence.

Ashley: In 5 words or less, describe the sound of LECHEROUS NOCTURNE.
Christian:
Extreme, barbaric, technical, mayhem.

Ashley: Thanks so much for taking the time for this interview! And, is there anything you would like to add or say to your fans?
Christian:
We hit the studio 23rd of July, should release the new work by august, Tentative title is Adoration Of The Blade, and thank you for taking your time for the interview too!
