When a new band breaks into an old scene it isn’t always that easy to get the answers you’re looking for. Finding PACT’s music quite phenomenal, especially for a first full length album released recently on the Moribund label. I wanted to know more about who they were as a band and the spine tingling album they just released. Unfortunately they were reluctant to give up too much information, leaving me boggled and added even more mystery as to who they really are. Here is the short of it all, my interview with PACT.

Sioux: Without knowing anything about PACT other than the release of your new album The Dragon Lineage Of Satan, it leads one to believe you materialized out of the pits of hell. Tell us about the origins of PACT. How did it all begin and come to this?
PACT:
We have all played in many extreme outfits over the past decade or so when we got this combination going the music evolved into what is now PACT. We started playing as a 3 piece about 6 years ago. We were originally under a different name and T was just coming in and recording drums to stuff we had already written. Then T decided to join the band full time which made the music much different for the better. When we started writing songs fresh with him there was so much of a change that we changed the name to PACT and recorded our first official album which is The Dragon Lineage Of Satan.

Sioux: The subject matter of your songwriting deal heavily with the occult. Can you expand on that?
PACT:
Vocalist Hag has practiced and studied the occult sciences for many years, and T and Wretch produce a soundtrack for him to express the experiences he has had during his practice.

Sioux: Obviously you are inspired by Satan, but what else drives you to write music? What do you attribute your unique and hypnotizing sound to?
PACT:
We all have very different record collections and we just do the stuff we like which gives it a unique sound, because it all comes together even though our minds might not be on the same page to begin with

Sioux: Tell me about the song Terror Of The Lower Astral.
PACT:
It is a personal kabalistic path working scrying the tree of death and the tunnels of set.

Sioux: USBM has seen better days. There are still a few bands that truly carry the black flame through the underground. PACT seems to be able to carry that torch as well. Who are your inspirations? What do you think of all these clone bands that start to sound alike and lose the idea of what black metal is really all about?
PACT:
There are always the original bands that make there own sound then there are some great bands that emulate those bands, after a while too many people may jump on board and the stuff gets too stale when you got hundreds of bands copying a specific band to the t.

Sioux: What is next for PACT? Any live rituals in the coming future? Also, what can we expect from a PACT live ritual?
PACT:
At some point we will play live, not sure when yet, I'm sure it will be a sick occasion when it goes down.

Sioux: Thank you for your time; do you have any last words for the metal hordes?
PACT:
We are working on our second album now, which we plan on raising the bar for ourselves, check out The Dragon Lineage Of Satan in the meantime.
