Summer
festivals and open airs are just great, nothing new – speaks
for itself, even more, since they cause a nice spin-off; because
many overseas bands fill up the week between the festival weekends
with very intensive single shows in small and cozy clubs :) So
does it DEATH ANGEL, once again. Those who ever have seen
them playing live know that’s pure energy and entertainment.
Nothing one should miss for any reason! So here we go and take
the ride to my second home called Turock
to worship the Bay Area thrashers, to have a hell of a blast and
to outrock the club. This show is supposed to be a hot and sweaty
one!

But at first
the support bands. The opening act goes by the name ::
TORMENT
TOOL :: I never heard of them before, which is
ok, at last I wanna still discover something new too ;) They are
young, play with enthusiasm and celebrate - of course - Thrash
Metal. But the way to the stage that mans the world for some is
sometimes a troublesome one. As for TORMENT TOOL they had
to go through traffic jams, arrived too late and then had to hurry
with equipment and sound-check, an unsuccessful venture when it
came to the sound afterwards. They kicked off their show with
a half hour delay and so had to shorten their setlist. I found
their dialect pretty cute but the cats seemingly were not understood
by the crowd. However, I assume that the songs that came not from
their 2010 album Dawn Of War was brand new material.
Musically nothing new or spectacular, it rather was the common
mélange of the Thrash heroes and idols with a tiny bit
of an own nuance. A solid show but a nice beginning.
Setlist: Intro, Like Cattle, Black Gold Ecstasy, Dark
Reckoning, Morbid Tranquillity, Elitary Reproach, Scorched Earth
Next up is
:: ACCU§ER
:: actually a local act and a legend, who wanna get
it going after their reunion. But I guess they are once again
far away from a commercial breakthrough. My latest live experience
with these guys dates back decades and I also didn’t had
a listen to their comeback album or their brand new one (entitled
Dependent Domination, out on July 15). So I met
them live on stage without any expectation… got positively
surprised :) That’s the way it has to be! ACCU§ER
played 3 new songs, which went down well, the rest were old classics
from the early days. And ACCU§ER played with an untamed
delight. Faster, heavier and of course on a higher level. It was
truly a pleasure to watch them. And with Who Dominates Who
they even got a choir together sing along vociferously. Yes,
that was a great show. Gimme more! And now let me listen to Dependent
Domination…
Setlist: Rotting From Within, Repent, Beneath Your Dignity,
Who Dominates Who, Desolate Shape, Unite/Devide, Escape From The
Oath
Time has come…
*jumps* Ok, it’s by nature that the fans attending tonight’s
show were here just to see one band: ::
DEATH
ANGEL ::! Already during the change-over loud DEATH
ANGEL chants were to hear, while Mr. Will Carroll was drumming
anywhere around the corner on anything. This man truly can’t
do it 5 minutes without his sticks ;) When DEATH ANGEL
finally enter the stage the now crowded Turock collectively freaks
out. The club turns into a whole moshpit. Marc gets close to the
fans and doesn’t know what to say he didn’t say in
the past already. The city, the club, the audience is something
special for him and the band, “the best place in the world”,
and the fans get blown away. Four-stringer Damien has to fight
with instrument and amp, changing the latter one after a while
and then started to jump and rock out again. Rob and Ted take
it a tiny bit easier, because Marc is going wild on stage, as
usual, and the stage isn’t the biggest one at all ;) Finally
a DEATH ANGEL headliner show and the Bay Area thrashers
take a lot of time for us, go through their entire history and
highlight the show with the Dio tribute Heaven & Hell.
A grandiose show, incredible evening, intensive, stunning, awesome…
you know, dunno what to say I didn’t already say about a
DEATH ANGEL show in the past ;) I just love them, as a
band, their music and their shows! Ok, when and where’s
the next?
