EMILIE
AUTUMN is a muse, a goddess, a driven one. She is a poet,
a singer-songwriter and most of all a violinist. Her autobiographical-tinged
thriller Asylum For Wayward Victorian Girls led
to her most recently released conceptual album Fight Like
A Girl, which again will see its light on stage as a dark
musical in 2014. Till then you should catch EMILIE AUTUMN
live on tour.

Exactly those
advice I took to heart since I never have seen EMILIE AUTUMN
live so far, nor even dealt with her any closer. I of course have
heard a lot about her and got told that her live shows are phenomenal.
So I used the chance when I got it to catch EMILIE AUTUMN
on her one and only show in NRW at the •
Pulp
• to experience how amazing and crazy she really
is ;)
The late summer
strikes back on this September day as it is really hot with 30°C
under a blue sky. That might be a reason why some fans rather
enjoyed this evening anywhere else at a barbeque than in a hot
club. Though, I think the venue is well filled, many of the fans
still dine in the restaurant… by the way, next time I should
do so too, it all looked pretty delicious… ;)
Tonight’s
show is owned by :: EMILIE
AUTUMN :: all alone, playing an almost 2 hrs set
with only two of her bloody crumpets (Captain Maggot und Veronica
Varlow) and without a support band. On time at 8 pm all those
little fan crumpets push close to the high stage while songs from
the glorious 30s sparkle out of the speakers, almost animating
the one or the other to act like Fred Astaire and Ginger Rodgers.
The intro seemed to be screwed at first, a new try and finally
EMILIE AUTUMN enters the stage and kicks off her show with
current single Fight Like A Girl.
I immediately like the stage deco and (changing) outfits. Those
corsages (especially the one Veronica was wearing) really look
beautiful. There is no photo pit, so we got squeezed into the
right corner of the stage. There was not that much to see from
there and sound seemed to be imbalanced from this position too.
I guess, in the middle of the club it was perfect.
Fan girlies in the first row screamed their souls out of throats,
swung own flags and self-made signs, while EMILIE AUTUMN
and her ladies were lascivious moving, climbing, fighting, and
dancing.
The show is a mixture of Burlesque, Vaudeville and Cabaret. Next
to singing there are also monologues, narrations, dialogues, parts
of pantomime and dance performing (I loved Veronicas solo feather
show). It all looks really fantastic and unique and spectacular.
I really loved it! An (adult) kissing scene with a girlie fan
made the crowd screaming and that girl blushing but happy. Apropos
crowd… it was strange to see how fans responded. They either
did not understand what was said or narrated on stage due to a
bad sound or due lacking language abilities. Anyway, crowd first
spent applause and screamed when they got a sign from the ladies,
not at the actual punch line. Odd.
I however was enthused by the show and just wish that I was allowed
to take photos dall the time (3SNF). Awesone stage setting. Even
the light was great, latest after the third song.
So, I definitely will catch EMILIE AUTUMN again when I
get the chance and I would love to witness (and photograph) that
musical too. Let’s see what will happen next year ;)
Great day, great evening and a great show. What more would you
want?
