It almost
took 10 years till FATES WARNING released a new album.
But finally it is done. Just right now Darkness In A Different
Light got released. To me it sounds warmer, more organic
but also darker with a strong melancholic note. And I wonder how
the new material might sound live as I know the Prog Metal veterans
as a very lively and energetic live band. It seems FATES WARNING
want to know that too and immediately started touring, a little
bit more extensive than in 2011. And FATES WARNING of course
made a stop at the • Turock
Club • in Essen, Germany. No question, a
must-be-there event!

As in 2011
there was a special guest announced but no one knew which band
would support till we arrived at the club. Tada… this band
was :: DIVIDED
MULTITUDE :: Never heard of? Me neither ;) And
around? Puzzled looks. Ok. That’s Norwegian guys, already
having 5 records up their sleeves, the latest one, Feed
On Your Misery, released in spring, where they played
most of the songs from. Musically they were quite appealing but
the singer was lacking power and volume in his voice. No revelation
but a solid show.
Setlist: Esperanto, Feed On Your Misery, Scars, Promised
Land, The World Is Watching, Enter Paradise, 2 4 7, What I See
The support
band had hardly left the stage as everybody was pushing towards.
It’s gonna be cuddly in the front row ;) The Turock is well-filled
and the crowd noticeable in high expectations. ::
FATES
WARNING :: took it easy while we were joking about
the lyric notepad for Ray Alder on the bottom of his micro stand.
Clock strikes 9 and the band gets into its set powerfully with
the opener of the new album One Thousand Fires. Right after
a best-of set follows with two more new songs embedded (Firefly
and I Am). Mood is great and emotions turning up. As for
me personally I have to say that I’m not that touched as
in 2011.
Guitarist Frank Aresti had to sit out the European tour dates
and got replaced by Mike Abdow, who most time was hiding in the
right corner. But he often got a backslapping from the band members
and an overwhelming applause when he got introduced.
As expected FATES WARNING once again play an almost 2 hrs
show including an encore and release the fans happy into the night.
Yep, great show!
