To
catch NEUROSIS live on stage isn’t the easiest thing,
although it feels like that they were more present in the last
decade than ever before. But I might be wrong… However,
once again I can call myself a happy woman to have one of these
few show dates around the corner, at Dortmund’s finest FZW.
Being a die-hard fan for almost two decades it again was a big
thing to me, I was looking forward and focusing on for months.
Could hardly wait, and some outer circumstances stirred even some
certain chaos into it… Well, can’t live without that,
you know, but at the end everything worked out fine, even better
                than expected ;)

              For unknown
reasons Amon Ra did not appear at the Dortmund show and so ::
                UFOMAMMUT
:: was left to be the only support this evening. The
Italian trio with the odd name (love it actually, that’s
one you’ll never forget after a show ;)) was a totally new
discovery to me. Founded back in 1999 UFOMAMMUT have already
released five regular records so far, well received by fans and
media. Musically they blend Stoner Rock, Sludge Metal, Doom, Space
Rock and Psychedelic on a highly experimental level. Epic bass-driven
and drone-like sound-walls, cranky samples, tons of effects and
ambient like sound collages flow like a wave gently around you
while the riptide takes you away to the open ocean, merging. It’s
loud but not aggressive music, mesmerizing and most time instrumental.
Vocals are, when setting in, much atmospheric. UFOMAMMUT
are truly unique in their sound. Loved it lots!

              Changeover.
Surprisingly it did not rain so we strolled out for cold brewski
at the beer garden (later we learnt that the world went under
a few corners westwards in the Ruhr area). Time has come and ::
                NEUROSIS
:: took over opening a soul smashing and mind warping
emotional roller coaster with Locust Star. NEUROSIS
focused on their newer history and even played two brand new songs,
which somehow did not really stand out; they just fitted into
the overall picture of songs from the The Eye Of Every Storm
and GivenTo The Rising period. That might be a little
bit disappointing, but let’s see how the entire new album
will turn out. The aggressive part came into play with some old
tracks, whereas NEUROSIS only made it at the end of the
show with the brilliant closer Through Silver In Blood
to raise this all destroying and sense overwhelming atmosphere.
Till that point their performance was kind of tame. Those who
already experienced a NEUROSIS show in the good old days
know that it can turn out much gruffer and heavier. Besides, I
found the show was way too short. Almost 90 minutes. Ok, that’s
always like that. Even if NEUROSIS would play a 3 hrs show
I’d be left nagging I guess ;) Of course, tonight’s
show was a great, a very intensive and under the skin creeping
one. Senses were so electrified that I almost could feel other
ones heartbeats. But… with the two legendary London shows
in mind I missed a special kick tonight.
