Having
released a sensational comeback album with Industrial Complex,
British EBM powerhouse NITZER EBB could secure the support
slot for Depeche Mode. Since the multi-million-sellers don’t
need to rock the stage every single night, NITZER EBB were
up to fill the days in between with headlining single shows.
Two days prior my very first Depeche Mode show in the sold out
LTU Arena Düsseldorf (50.000 peeps) I got NITZER EBB
in a comfortably surrounding at Matrix,
Bochum. And this show was about to become legendary… almost
;)

First up was
formerly Canadian, now German electro act ::
PSYCHE
:: It has been a long time since I saw them playing
live. I think it was 2005 last time… Since then PSYCHE
have been busy releasing a couple of albums, wherefrom at least
the one or the other song caught me and got stuck. In the beginning
I was a bit afraid if PSYCHE would be able to please and
heat up the crowd. And yes, they could! ;) Darrin Huss mostly
focused on the faster and smashing hits, so that already at Gods
And Monsters most people were dancing. Sound was incredibly
good for the Matrix and Darrin Huss’ voice in good shape,
what made the PSYCHE highlight Goodbye Horses to
a gooseflesh-causing fantastic moment. Really great!
While Darrin was dancing and singing and having a good time on
stage his live musicians looked like having bitten the bullet.
Dunno what bugged them.
Setlist: The Beyond, Gods And Monsters, 15 Minutes,
Eternal, Sanctuary, Disorder, Goodbye Horses, Unveiling The Secret,
The Hiding Place
Before ::
NITZER
EBB :: started to go wild first scraps for the
best places came up. The club was well-filled now, the first rows
packed and I got my place back when the guys kicked off with Promises.
When arriving at Matrix, Douglas, Bon and Jason still looked a
bit tired, Bon even got a cold, but on stage however there was
nothing to see. They only left scorched earth to say so ;) The
tube actually turned into a cauldron in a twinkling of an eye.
Behind us at least two rows of men with naked torso and drenched
in sweat freaking out, while we got them entirely, their fists
or elbows into the back. Never mind, I’m no sugar babe ;)
And the mood was just phenomenal! The setlist was a best-of with
half of the songs from Industrial Complex embedded.
A breath-taking show, an incredible band, the air testosterone-charged
and the crowd freaking out! Yes! This show was just great! Awesome!
Douglas McCarthy this time was dressed in suit and tie, what didn’t
keep him from running and jumping over the stage. He just did
not strip. Ok, this was my best NITZER EBB so far! :)
