Happy birthday to you, happy birthday to you, happy birthday dear PSOA, happy birthday to you! :)
[Dajana] Hardly to believe but our favorite festival, the legendary PARTY SAN OPEN AIR celebrates its 25th anniversary! A memorable occasion and reason to have a hell of a party and this year’s line-up delivers the music. And it is actually my 10th PSOA, so a little anniversary to celebrate too ;)
As every year, the NH crew is beyond stoked long before and can’t wait to hit the road towards Schlotheim, Thuringia. This year we had much luck and made it without any traffic. Very relaxed we arrived, built up our tents, had the first beer and enjoyed the weather, the PSOA feeling and ourselves.
The heat wave was gone right on time. It was warm, mostly sunny, with some clouds and wind, and some more clouds and rain on Friday evening, but nothing to nag about. On Thursday and Saturday night one could see the Perseids – I did, 3 of them, the real ones, not the ones a dead drunk sees ;)

[BRT] PARTY SAN OPEN AIR 2019 – discussions about the billing, weak or strong, worthy the anniversary, etc. started early and were even more heated than the years before. Some people I know actually stayed home disappointed this year. Yes, it is debatable if BLOODBATH is a worthy headliner but don’t forget that costs for safety and musician’s fees exploded over the last couple of years. Bands such as Behemoth or Carcass might be too expensive in the future. The squad of potential candidates to headline such festival is not that big, if you don’t want to see the same bands again and again. I know, this discussion will return next year again, but please with less of a “pissed of about” attitude.
[Öko] It is just the third time I’m here but I immediately felt home. It is just a great festival where (almost) everything is perfect.
[Dajana] From an organizational point of view, everything was perfect again. Ticket and beer pricing has been the same, only for food you had to pay more. Deposit for the beer and coffee cups has increased to keep the infield clean (2 Euro now). Worked out as photos prove on the last festival day ;)
Unfortunately, there is a topic returning every year with new headlines. Again there have been people, right-winged or with right-winged tendencies, that wore shirts of Nazi bands or hoisted a (Reichstag) flag in the camp ground. Not to mention the booking of Ascension that knowingly signed to a Nazi label because the owner is “such a good friend”.
A festival that again and again states to be against right-wing extremism, racism and fascism should be WAY more attentive and most of all capable of acting regarding booking and what’s going on on the festival ground.
[Öko] At this very appropriate criticism, I would like to bring the people of DEAF FOREVER in. They also position themselves against all kind of right-winged shit yet flatter Nazi idiots, like Ascension for example. But there are also exceptions. Let me recommend the well-done Deathspell Omega review by Wolf Mühlmann, to be read in the current issue.
[BRT] To make clear, Ascension is no Nazi band, yet one with a spineless airy-fairy attitude towards brown shit. So, they should not wonder to be confronted with such accusations always again. With a clear statement, they probably would lose potential buyers but gain reputation and respect. Oh, stop… we are talking about Black Metal. Elite and so on, you know… So far, I have not found a convincing statement or interview with the Ascension singer, who is also guitarist in Secrets Of The Moon and Ruins Of Beverast.
[Dajana] At the end of our foreword we would like to say THANK YOU to Mieze, Jarne, Boy and co., to all the makers and helping hands behind the festivals, to D.W.S. Security, to all the cleaners and, of course, to all the bands for another memorable PSOA festival weekend.
And now let the madness begin ;) |
