Witchsmeller Pursuivant ~ Dark Ages

Enter Delirium Release Party

2001-10-06 BE Vosselaar - Biebob

And an another concert within the scope of our weekend descent on Belgium. I never heard anything either both bands before, not even the band’s names have crossed my way at anytime. But it seems, at least WITCHSMELLER PURSUIVANT is a true insider’s tip. Everybody around the Biebob was in excited anticipation, probably to see another great live show. I was told a lot of stories about the band. Ultimately I must have looked pretty calfused and decided to wait and see...

:: DARK AGES :: is still a pretty young band. They were founded in 1997 by the brothers Yannick and Xavier Santens. The band has released two demos so far, whereby the second demo The Shadowdomain had gotten good responses and reviews, so already a little sucess of esteem. Musically you get it heavy on your ears. DARK AGES are unmistakebly Dissection influenced and sound very Swedish. Blackened Death Metal. Nevertheless the 4 Belgian guys don’t sound new or originally. They even don’t claim to be. Me personally, I prefered to go away after the fourth track and to enter the legendary CD store of the LSP Company which was opened at midnight’s hour. Sorry, but no setlist here because of that. I also don’t know, if the second demo Shadowdomain is still available.

Back on time to :: WITCHSMELLER PURSUIVANT :: and having been provided with delicious Belgian beer I was really curious now about this band. One thing I can announce before: there are already hordes of Smellermaniacs. So at least the underground cult status is verified. WITCHSMELLER PURSUIVANT have started out in 1994 as a cover band. Later they have been starting to write more and more of their own songs. The result, we have here now with the release party of their debut album Enter Delirium. Of course they played all the songs from this album and also 4 tracks from their last demo Melissa’s Birthday. Now, how to describe their music... It is definitely classical heavy metal, strongly influenced by the 80‘s with a pinch of Maiden, Osborne and Mercyful Fate. But really unique about this band is their live presentation. Singer and warlock Luciver was romping all over the stage like the devil in person. He not only carried away his own rhythm fraction but also the whole audience. Luc was shrieking, screaming and flattering, he was standing in the corner, lying or kneeing on the stage with rolled eyes or even flying about those nearly and was singing his soul out of his body. Yeah, no one could elude this spectacle. What an event!

Upshot: Well, DARK AGES really went down well at this evening and they didn’t really get noticed. That’s pity for the band. For WITCHSMELLER PURSUIVANT this release party should been a complete success. At least even the sooo quiete Belgian audience could be brought out of its shell. Nearly everybody was wildly rocking and headbanging in this room.
