The music on Portals, the new effort by the group ARSONISTS GET ALL THE GIRLS, is very hard to describe. The band likes this instance – and wants to be taken seriously despite all humor, which is spread by their tunes. Arthur and Gavin took some time to answer the questions about the record, the covers, the importance of lyrics and much more – enjoy!

Leo: Congrats for a crazy new album full of surprising ideas! Where will I find myself after opening the Portals?
Arthur/Garin:
Sucked into a portal which space and time do not exist and you will have all kinds of musical experiences all in one record!

Leo: Please tell us about the recording sessions!
Arthur/Garin:
It was fun… everything came together perfectly it was very stress free environment and we had a blast….

Leo: Please tell us about the funny last song Tea Time Tibbons!
Arthur/Garin:
I once saw an old dude sitting in a convalescent center with his visitors sitting there talking to one another, instead of actually visiting him. He just looked so fucking pissed off and disgruntled it always stuck with me on how miserable he could have been…So Tea Time Tibbons is about a time of tea that was really quite shit and unentertaining.

Leo: How do fans react on the new album and how does the press?
Arthur/Garin:
We have been getting non stop amazing complements on the new record… we were very scared because we went balls out with the new record and it was definitely a lot more mature and we have a new vocalist on it but people have told us its there favorite album of the year which is amazing… if they don’t like it we really don’t give a fuck. We have always written music for ourselves and not trying to please anyone….we appreciate any kind of feedback… its entertaining!

Leo: What about the finding of your funny band’s name?
Arthur/Garin:
Our old bass player Patrick who passed away was high in his room and thought of it. At the time we were a joke band and wanted something catchy and weird, we just decided to keep it after that.

Leo: Are you all married? What about girlfriends? Who got the most? :)
Arthur/Garin:
No one is married; most of the band has a girlfriend or something of that nature except for Jared and I.

Leo: It is hard to describe your style. Can you do that for me?
Arthur/Garin:
That’s the point we don’t have want to ever be lumped into any kind of category, we always wanted to be our own thing, I guess its worked out better than we expected!

Leo: Everything is possible – would you integrate any kind of style, no matter how crazy it sounds?
Arthur/Garin:
Of course we love throwing people for a loop!

Leo: Do you listen to all kinds of (metal) music? What about your faves?
Arthur/Garin:
We all listen to everything. I personally have been listening to a lot of laid back music lately such as Bjork and Dredg… but I do love metal the new Black Dahlia Murder is amazing same with the new Behemoth.

Leo: You are quite successful in the States, what are you going to do to conquer Europe?
Arthur/Garin:
In the states kids honestly are nothing like the kids overseas, the kids in the States are all in a band everything thinks they are hot shit, no one goes to shows like they used to and they are spoiled with all the good bands…

Leo: Is tour life as crazy as the band’s image suggests?
Arthur/Garin:
Not really we are pretty mellow.

Leo: Do you want to be taken as a serious band or is fun most important?
Arthur/Garin:
Take it serious but always have fun that’s the point of being in a band, it’s not a job it’s what you love and it’s life as a musician following your dreams!

Leo: The multicolored covers are really uncommon in Metal – is it intended to get all eyes on your covers? How important is the optical aspect and the lyrics for you?
Arthur/Garin:
I think the colors of the album were just however we wanted that particular album to grab you when you see it; it doesn’t have anything to do with “sticking out” I suppose. A more stimulating approach than the black cover with black text. The lyrics are more of the part in our music that we tried to get the right angle on the song…whether its themed, theoretical, political, social, or a plot, its just how we felt when writing the music put in a way we wanted to scream it.

Leo: Thanks a lot for answering my questions, cheers!
