Dajana: With
Of Dreams Forgotten And Fables Untold a wonderful album,
perfect for the dark and cold Autumn/Winter season to dream
off back home with a hot cup of tea in hands … Congratulations.
Since there is not yet much to read, how is the response so
far? Are you satisfied with your debut album?
Yes we are absolutely satisfied. The recordings of the debut
album took place at Hungarian Elysion and here we managed to
create a sound we always dreamt of. We are very satisfied with
the final result. Same goes for the cover artwork. It looks
really fantastic thanks to the professionalism of Nuno and JM
of Equilibrium Music.
To be honest we are very surprised by the responses... we only
had 1 bad review so far, the others are really great. We are
only at the beginning of the path we choose to traverse, but
i think this debut is a good starting. We are very happy!
Dajana: Since
you are both Hungarian, why does your music sound so much like
the Celtic interpretations of Loreena McKennitt or Celtic music
generally? Wasn’t it possible to put much more of your
own folk music into your work? Giving it a unique touch, standing
out from the many bands that already do this kind of music?
We try to walk our own path, but it would be useless to deny
the fact that there are artists and bands that inspire us. One
of them is Loreena McKennitt. Though we love her works, I don't
think our music is a mere copy of her works. Maybe you feel
this because Celtic and Hungarian music have common characteristics
with each other. Yet they are not feeding from the same source…
Dajana: Talking
about the band’s musical future, do you already have ideas,
a new concept for the next album? Will there be – maybe
– more Hungarian folk elements? More special instruments
(contributed by guest musicians for example)? More of Hungarian
fire and passion?
… And yes we are planning to put much more of Hungarian
folk music into our next album using more ethnic instruments
and maybe using more Hungarian lyrics.
Dajana: Introduce
yourself a little bit: How you got together? What’s your
musical background? Personal goals, visions, sources of inspiration,
influences … etc.
THE MOON AND THE NIGHTSPIRIT was formed in
2003 by Agnes and me. In the beginning it was only a side-project,
a musical experiment of ours, not a full-time band, due to the
fact that we were members of a Hungarian gothic metal band (Evensong)
at the time. We've always been interested in the pagan culture
and wisdom, the spiritual and musical heritage of our ancestors,
the long-forgotten tales of the old, and after writing a few
songs for THE MOON AND THE NIGHTSPIRIT we realized
that this was the music we always wanted to play, the path we've
been searching for all the time, the world where we truly belong.
So we decided to quit our former band in order to pull all our
efforts and emotions into THE MOON AND THE NIGHTSPIRIT.
In 2004 we recorded a promotional EP, which gave us the record
deal with Portuguese Equilibrium Music. In the summer of 2005,
after a short song-writing period, we entered Hungarian Elysion
studio again to record our debut album Of Dreams
Forgotten And Fables Untold.
Goals?...Well the
most important thing right now is to reach as many people with
our music, playing as many live gigs as possible. And of course
we are planning to record a new album, but we do not want to
hurry with this.
Our greatest source
of inspiration is the musical and spiritual heritage of our
ancestors. We strove to create a unique world, one that feeds
on fables untold and dreams forgotten, a music that draws on
ancient folk and shamanistic music. Music from dreamers to dreamers.
Dajana: You
describe yourself as seekers. What are you looking for? What
you want to discover?
We are seeking the way to open the third, inner eye, the eye
that is capable of seeing beyond the veil of Isis, where lies
the Truth eternal. We are walking the path trod by our ancestors...
a path of wisdom and purity.
We are the ones who do not want to submerge into the fathomless
and bottomless sink of iniquity. The sink of this godless and
soulless modern/material world
Dajana: What
do you do for your “normal” living?
We are both working as sound-engineers in a Hungarian recording
Studio. Agnes is also teaching singing to children.
Dajana: How
you have “created” such a band name (probably the
most common question for the next 2 years *g*)? Is there a special
meaning behind? Who’s the moon and who’s the nightspirit?
We wanted a name full of expression, something that is symbolical.
For us “Moon” symbolizes the feminine and “Nightspirit”
the masculine side of nature. Moon is the muse, the guardian
of ancient wisdom, who knows all secrets one alone, the mother.
Nightspirit is the seeker, the wanderer of dreams, the child.
Moon is the master, Nightspirit is the disciple.
Dajana: Any
chance for live performances outside Hungary?
Yes, we are planning to do some live gigs abroad as well. Nowadays
we are trying to contact concert managements... Let us hope
the best. TMATN is a full time band not a mere
„studio-orientated“ project anymore, so we are ready
to play as many live shows as possible with the help of guest
musicians.
Dajana: Some
words about your country. Let me feel like I have to get some
clothes together and to catch the next fly …
Endless wilderness... forests of unspeakable beauty... rich
cultural heritage... kind and friendly people... good vines...
tasty and unique foods.
Dajana: I’m
now at the end of my questions it’s up to you to tell
us everything I forgot to ask or finish with some final words
;)
Thank you very much for the opportunity... Cheers from Hungary
:)
