The
first live show in the new year. Finally live music, finally taking
photos again. Not that I wouldn’t welcome a well deserved
break. Every now and then I get these “fed-up-with-shows”
phase, especially when you always get the same stuff live on stage.
But then there is the moment where you can’t sit still anymore
and you have the urgent need inside to go out again ;) However,
2013 kicks off with a novelty, as I have never seen THE 69
EYES and THE FRIGHT live so far (or missed them anywhere
at a festival). Well, it’s never too late... ;)

THE
FRIGHT :: kick off the evening on time at 8 pm.
The • Zeche
Bochum • is just passably filled and the
mood still without passion. But THE FRIGHT do well heating
up the crowd and quickly wins its favor. Especially the girls
get along well. No wonder, visually the boys have something to
offer ;) THE FRIGHT support their current and simply self-titled
third album, where they play songs such as Beloved Night, Sin
City, Cemetery Of Hearts and the current single 666 Full
Speed Ahead from. Their blend of music mixing Horror Punk
with Sleaze and Rock does not differ that much from the headliner,
has definitely its moments but is just average all in all. The
music is lacking of drive, pep and power. I miss a second guitar.
Singer Lon quickly reaches his limits with voice and singing.
Here again he lacks of power and most of all of voice volume.
The boys can make up with wild stage acting, even on this narrow
space left for them. But to be honest, they don’t kick me
out of my socks. It’s the closing track, Danzig’s
Mother, which makes me happy, because this one is performed
great. And here I stand swayin’ and swingin’…
;)
To me ::
THE
69 EYES :: were musically quite an ambivalent matter
over the last years. Now they have released their tenth album
X and it is about time to pay my respect to the
Finns. Lights out, spot on… the intro starts, Jace Everett’s
Bad Things… *big grin*. Okay, THE 69 EYES
already scored ;) The gents get onto stage and kick off with Love
Runs Away, the opener of their newest record. They could not
have started any better. The Zeche is now packed and crowded,
sold out so to say and I’m impressed. That I did not expect.
Fans are on fire right from the start and the girlies start screeching.
It’s no secret that the gents are getting a bit long in
the tooth. Except for crazy-head Jussi behind the drums the band
acts very relaxed on stage, except for a few swiveling hips and
micro stand turner by singer Jyrki. What stroke me is the fact
that THE 69 EYES have some really great and asskicking
songs and Jyrki a gifted voice. But unfortunately he lacks pep
and power and most of all of voice volume. He might sound great
on CD but live his voice is weak. Beside, the rhythm guitar was
hardly to hear and so reduced some power too. The band’s
classics from their heydays were put to the end of the set and
into the encore. But those left the fans enthusiastic. Yes, it
was a nice evening :)
