Who
did not see the documentation of legendary metallers ANVIL!
The Story Of Anvil (2009), which was even shown in
Germany’s cinemas. A film for real metal heads that makes
you laughing and moves you to tears.
Canadian speed metallers ANVIL are on tour again throughout
Europe, stopping at almost every summer festival around, adding
a couple of club shows to bridge time between the festival weekends.
And the last club show of this tour leg brings ANVIL just
                to my hometown at Gleis
                22 ;)

              It is fkg
hot these days but luckily one hour prior the show sky overcasts
for a nice rainy thunderstorm that brings at least a little bit
of cooling outside. The venue is sold out, more or less and when
we arrive a lot of people already crowd around the entry. We hook
up with friends and drink our first beer when the news goes around
that GIRLSCHOOL won’t play tonight. Nobody knows
why. There is disappointment to read in many faces…

              So, only ::
                ANVIL
:: are left to fill this evening. They get on the tiny
stage on their original time, what means that we have to bridge
another hour with beer and talks ;)
Finally, time has come. At subtropical temperatures and accompanied
by March Of The Crabs, ANVIL get frenetically welcomed
and set in with the classic 666. There is no holding back,
first rows downright freak out, creating a very familiar and intimate
atmosphere. Steve “Lips” Kudlow is visibly touched
and can’t stop saying “thank you” from the bottom
of his heart, saying that dreams come true now. Very emotional.
ANVIL is such adorable band. Really. Fans chant and scream
ANVIL, ANVIL after every song, sometimes even in
stereo, while Lips tries to hint at the next songs. Works out
fines ;) The guys are bathed in sweat in a twinkling of an eye
and play truly their asses off. Bass player Glen (who - after
all these years - still gets introduced as the "new guy")
most time stays in the background, for that Robb and especially
Steve are full of action, play drum and guitar solos and do some
virtuosic stuff, with a much battered and formerly golden dildo
and strings at Mothra for example ;) Now I finally know
how to use that thing properly. Thanx man! *laughs* ANVIL
play classics from the first four records and also songs from
the still up to date album This Is Thirteen (2007),
next to a still unreleased track from the early days of the band:
                Thumb Hang.
ANVIL – spanning 35 years now and not a bit quiet,
or less lively. Still alive and kicking to make it short ;) Their
film brought them back to the scenery and they get some attention.
Around 30 years after Metal On Metal they start
living their one and only dream. And I hope it is just the beginning
for them. I truly wish them all the best and the success and recognition
they deserve, from the bottom of my heart!
It was an awesome show tonight, hot, sweaty but stirring. Intensive
80 minutes of pure heavy metal, with a passion, soul and dedication
                this band has literally defined!
