On
time at 4pm the gates to the loveliest festival location gets
opened. Having finished a busy working day (early shift) I jump
into even more work and the weekend ;) Traffic is critical but
we make it to the venue on time. Weather is… pissed off
of us and the festival. As in the years before it is cold and
rainy. To our luck it stopped raining cats and dogs and went over
to some drizzle we could stand. Even more as the organizers decided
to give out hot spiced wine :) I would like to recommend to move
the BLACKFIELD FESTIVAL into the summer :P

Opening the
celebration is :: FULL
CONTACT69 :: a band I never heard of before. They
won this slot at the Sonic Seducer band battle. FULL CONTACT
69 is a trio hailing from Erfurt and Berlin, whereas the Berlin
part was caught up in a traffic jam and the band had to perform
as a duo. We got Electro much in the veins of FLA. Every now and
then I got reminded of Swedish band Interlace too. I liked the
band battle winner song Under The False Flag most.
Setlist: No First Us Policy, Out Of Control, Man Machine,
Under The False Flag, Nothing Grows In Shade
Next up are
the time-honored gentlemen of :: COPPELIUS
:: They never played the BLACKFIELD before but
are of course no unknown. I like them much and am always happy
to see them playing live as they always offer a great show. And
so they do tonight. Some acidness, some skirmish, some fooling,
an always busily rushing servant Bastille, laughter and soap bubbles.
That is how I love it ;) Excellent music, excellent show, highlight
of the day. Yes, COPPELIUS makes happy!
Setlist: Overtüre, Bitten Danken Petitieren, Welt
im Wahn, Locked Out, Reichtum, Risiko, Ade mein Lieb
Time to fast-forward
a century to let :: SPETSNAZ
:: enter the stage. The first act I now see twice at
BLACKFIELD FESTIVAL. I like them much; they do EBM the
Nitzer Ebb style. What I don’t like - a typical problem
with Electro acts on festival stages - visually they have nothing
to offer. One person singing and running around, another one nailed
behind the keys or drums. No lights, no show. And at this fkg
bad weather you not even want to stand down there and dance…
Setlist: Ignorance Is Bliss, Allegiance, Apathy, Free
Fall, Fake!, Grand Design, Dead Mans Eyes, Who Made You God?,
Degenerate Ones, Onwards, Mine
It looks much
better when :: IN
STRICT CONFIDENCE :: kick in. Speaking of lights
and performance. You can already hear many ahs and ohs when guitarist
Haydee Sparks enters the stage and men start drool. Same goes
for singer Nina de Lianin, who joins in a little later. Her latex
dress is breathtaking and I’m sure made by Haydee Sparks
(who is also a designer). Mr. Ostermann almost goes under at so
much femaleness ;) Musically I in fact like ISC but I prefer
their older stuff, you know, Love Kills! time. Don’t
like Ninas voice that much.
Setlist: My Desire, Promised Land, Justice, Seven Lives,
Set Me Free, Morpheus, Silver Bullets, Engelsstaub
Now we have
the first band playing the BLACKFIELD FESTIVAL thrice ::
DEATHSTARS
:: Hmpf. At least they offer some variety as it is
now time for Goth/Glam Rock. The Swedes still don’t have
a new album out but at least offer us a new single called Metal.
Setlist: Blitzkrieg, Semi-Automatic, Blood Stains Blonde,
New Dead Nation, Motherzone, Cyanide, Chertograd, Trinity Fields,
Mark Of The Gun, The Revolution Exodus, Tongues, Metal, Death
Dies Hard
Last but not
least again repeat. Again :: BLUTENGEL
:: headline the Friday. Again the play a theatrical
show, great to photograph, great to watch and again they teach
me fear musically.
And so the
first festival day comes to an end. It is cold, it is wet and
I’m looking forward to a hot shower. But hope dies last,
weather forecasts say rain will stop next day around noon and
even allow the sun to break through…
