And One - Project Pitchfork - Samsas Traum - Zeromancer - [:SITD:] - Merciful Nuns - Lord Of The Lost - Aesthetic Perfection - NOYCE™ - Formalin

[Psycho] Somehow always the same bands play the BLACKFIELD FESTIVAL. So you hardly miss anything if you skip one year. And I guess there will nothing change in this matter. What remains is the great location and the possibility to meet friends there and to have fun. It worked out perfectly on this Saturday ;)

:: pics ::

[Dajana] The weather is keeping up, it is still cold and wet and the early bird can fuck itself… However, night was short and I need some time to get off the grid. A surreal experience and a coffee later it clears off and we get the promised sunshine. Sunburn too, unasked. Today I don’t have to drive and so can taste the one or the other brewery.

[Dajana] But first the work. Day 2 gets started with Berlin-based duo :: FORMALIN :: also unknown to me so far. Industrial in the morning. Okay, Industrial in the noon, with sun, great wake-up call, heard by the most anywhere outside the location. The ones down in the arena can be counted easily. I like the music. From a photographer’s point of view… well. It got even worse as the backdrop was even lower due to the wind and you always had a cross-bar in the picture.
Setlist: Intro, My Fetisch, Tied And Blinded, Faker, This Isn’t Love, End Of All Suffering, Resistance

[Dajana] :: NOYCE TM :: I already know from their tour supporting Diary Of Dreams. Expect well-done Synthie Pop without frills and a much likeable frontman. They fail at the first song Headland but get over it confident and score. NOYCE TM play a brand new song entitled Fall[out] you can still download for free from the band’s homepage. And they had a new face in the band, Jessica Keuther, playing violin.
Setlist: Headland, Tagwerk, Man On The Moon, Panique, Fall[out], Year 03, This World

[Dajana] Hahahaha, these guys are crazy. :: AESTHETIC PERFECTION :: is the hit! Musically as well visually. Hailing from sunny L.A. the duo consists of Daniel Graves and Tim Van Horn. Live on stage they get completed by Elliot Berlin on keys (that guy that can’t bear alcohol, you remember? ;)). This band always looks different, creative, having a different theme. This is Punk-tinged Electro that makes real fun that makes you dance. AESTHETIC PERFECTION already surprised me in 2010 and again left their impact on me :)

[Psycho] :: LORD OF THE LOST :: is actually one band I did not know before. As more I was surprised how professionally they presented their show. Dark Rock with a slight Glam Rock note, with perfect announcements, perfect movements, perfect stage-acting and every tone was perfect too. To be honest, this was already too much perfectionism. A great show should always be a bit unpredictable and leave room for spontaneity. Nothing the Hamburg boys could offer. But what surprised me most was the remarkably great response by the fans. LORD OF THE LOST were able to fill the venue at this early time almost completely. And those fans were freaking out. I guess to see LORD OF THE LOST that early during a festival won’t happen that often anymore.
[Dajana] I have still not seen LOTL live either but already heard a lot about them and was quite curious as all the live pics I have seen so far promised a great and photogenic show. And yes, it was! But I have to agree with Psycho. The show was awesome but sort of soulless. Too strongly choreographed and nothing spontaneous. Though, LORD OF THE LOST is hip. Fans are crazy about them and probably had the most people at the signing session.
Setlist: Intro, Live Today/Black Lolita, Shut Up When You Are Talking To Me, Heart For Sale, Sex On Legs, Prison, Undead Or Alive, Dry The Rain, Blood For Blood, Die Tomorrow, Credo

[Psycho] One man's joy is another man's sorrow… Was the crowd just frenetically rocking :: MERCIFUL NUNS :: now had to face an almost yawning emptiness. Of course, life’s a bitch sometimes but MERCIFUL NUNS did not make it any easier. First mood got scaled down by an overlong intro, followed by The Portal, a very lengthy opener. Almost absurd the two monitors acted on this huge stage at sunny sunshine, even if its interludes were quite interesting. It seems did not understand the difference between a club and an open air show, because there was hardly and movement on stage and no communication with the crowd. To make it even worse the band had to struggle some sound problems. Well I guess there are not many people you would have taken pleasure in that show. MERCIFUL NUNS neither at it seemed. They left the stage 15 minutes before the regular end of their show, without any comment. So unprofessional! This was truly a pity and absolutely incomprehensible to me as we talk about experienced and professional musicians who should be able to avoid such embarrassments.
[Dajana] I actually loved the songs, their mood and atmosphere. And I loved this show. But I have to confess that it was utmost unfitting for an open air concert at 2.30pm and such bright sunshine. The elitist behavior of the band I guess was a try to stand out all those cheesy bands, music and outfits around. Anyway MERCIFUL NUNS now attracted my attention ;)
Setlist: The Portal, Hypogeum, Body Of Light, Ancient Astronaut, Genesis Revealed, Kybalion, The Maelstrom

[Psycho] Such problems with the crowd :: [:SITD:] :: shouldn’t have faced longer time. Their show was kind of a home match; there was nothing that could go wrong. Ok, the band’s setlist did not offer anything new but the dudes rocked the stage as hell got cheered and adored. Fun and pleasure for everybody, that’s that.
[Dajana] Home match or not, to see [:SITD:] 3 times in 6 years is no fun and no pleasure. There would have been other interesting local bands…
Snuff Machinery, Code:Red, Lebensborn, Richtfest 2, Papillon, Rot, Richtfest, Herbsterwachen

[Psycho] Whoops, this constellation we already had today: one band burning stages and the follow-up in need to keep up that high-energy-level. :: ZEROMANCER :: did not have an easy job but displayed how you can meet your challenge: with utmost delight in playing, a lot of action on stage, ongoing communication and a great live set. All this these Norwegian guys brought to perfection, even with the handicap of playing foreign instruments (which stopped the Chrome Bitch once – you can blame Air Berlin for that). Besides, there is nothing to nag about. ZEROMANCER are and will always be an awesome live band! It was a real pleasure to listen to such smash hits as Clone Your Lover, Doctor Online and the well-done DM cover Photographic. And, contrary to my general opinion regarding the billing, I would not mind to see ZEROMANCER playing the BLACKFIELD FESTIVAL every year ;)
[Dajana] Yep, I agree 100%! It wasn’t their best show but the best one on this second festival day! So, job done and jumped into the crowd to rock the hell out!

[Psycho] :: SAMSAS TRAUM :: is a band I rightly ignored in the past, now, and will in the future.
[Dajana] Hmpf… I would like too but there is an editorial business. Mr. Kaschke and his dreams never touched me, but well, there is no need either, it’s all a matter of taste right? But he is aware of the ambivalence he causes and threw tees with the slogan “I hate Alexander Kaschke” into the crowd *laughs* An eye catcher followed when lovely Vic Anselmo entered the stage for guest vocals in Niemand…anderem als Dir.
Setlist: Intro, Ein Name im Kristall, Für immer, Igel im Nebel, Stromausfall im Herzspital, heiliges Herz, Niemand…anderem als Dir, Im Zeichen des Wurms, Endstation Eden, Die Zärtlichkeit der Verdammten, Ein Fötus wie Du

[Psycho] I in the meantime roamed the shopping mall, tried to eat excellent hot bread without burning tongue and palate and making blots and enjoyed Scottish Ale delicacies, latter one at exorbitant prices, as the prices generally have increased.

[Psycho] Electro/Industrial veterans :: PROJECT PITCHFORK :: appeared with not less than 3 drummers! I think it was too much. At least when you then experience that they all play the same and some parts still come from the hard drive (e.g. some special percussions and double bass elements). Then better using a guitar player. Because what feels stranger than guitars from the tape?
Nonetheless, the Pitchies offered a great show which got enthusiastically rewarded by the crowd. Over the entire playing time I found the music rather monotonous (same goes for their records) but that’s a matter of taste. One thing I’d like to mention is the way Peter Spilles treats his fans, just great, very likeable!
[Dajana] It was actually Peter Spilles birthday - congratulation - and they just came back from an extended US tour. Those 3 drummers (Léo - ex-Oomph!, Nook - current PP drummer and Achim - former PP and now Eisbrecher drummer) at least looked pretty cool drumming synchronously and added much power to the sound. The only not so good thing was that the sun killed the effect of the huge light show.
Setlist: Intro, Lament, Conjure, Endless Infinity, Timekiller, An End, The Queen Of Tine & Space, Pitch-black, Rain, Steelrose/The Circus, Beholder, Existence, Enchanted Dots Of Light

[Psycho] Not so long time ago :: AND ONE :: have announced to disband after a 25 years spanning band history and that tonight’s headlining show would be one of the last big ones. But this fact has not changed anything. Their show and performance was as always. Steve Naghavi played his role as entertainer, was the animation dancer and storyteller, while the other guys pushed their buttons in the background. The setlist was nothing special either, usual stuff, hits from the band’s entire career and some cover versions. No surprises, nothing special at all but entertaining…
Setlist: Back Home, Stop The Sun, Wasted, Stand The Pain, Love You To The End, Missing Track, Metalhammer, Steine sind Steine, Traumfrau, Mirror In Your Heart, Electrocution, Deutschmaschine, Seven, The Walk, High, Sometimes, Für // Technoman, Get You Closer, Military Fashion Show, Shouts Of Joy

[Dajana] Sun burnt the second festival day sees its end. Why do festivals pass by so fast? *sighs*
