2018-11-18 DE – Dortmund - Warsteiner Music Hall

| Doors: 6.30 pm | Show: 7.30 pm | Tickets: 37.00 Euro + fees |

The EDITORS truly know how to make their fans happy ;) In spring the Brits traveled throughout Europe in support of their brand new release, Violence. I was more than happy to catch them for the first time in my hometown for a great show (live report here). I was blown away.
This has been a highly successful tour with many sold out shows so that the EDITORS decided to add a second tour string in fall. Again with a show nearby. Guess what. Of course, a must-attend-event! This time, the EDITORS brought their show to the wonderful Phoenix Hall in Dortmund.

Unfortunately, the owner of the hall partnered with a beer company for sponsoring. Now you not only get that dishwater there, the hall is also named after it. Well, then. There is nothing I can do about it (except for spending a billions of Euro to take over the hall or the sponsoring ;)). I actually don’t drink at shows and at the end only the music counts, right? Right! The NH crew arrived super early at the:: Warsteiner Music Hall :: so that we not only got a close parking but also had time for a coffee, merchandise shopping and meeting up with friends. The hall was well-filled but not really packed. There was enough room left for comfortable movement. By the way, it would be nice to get a bit of food in the hall, something like Pretzel buns/rolls, you know.

The anticipation was high and so was the curiosity about :: VÖK ::. VÖK? Never heard of? Me neither. Google says: “VÖK is a dream-pop/indie-electronica band formed in Reykjavík, Iceland, in 2013.”. They have released their debut, Figure, in April 2017 and, additionally, some EPs and singles. That’s the lowdown. Two videos on YouTube promised me a wonderful set. And VÖK truly did not disappoint. Right on time the trio got into their set with Breaking Bones from the debut Figure. Immediately, the beautiful and likewise cool and distant voice of Margrét Rán Magnúsdóttir captivated. She created a fascinating aura that reminded me a little bit of Bjork. Must be the magic of the land of ice and fire…
The songs were ranging from rather quiet, sometimes to gently purling (Waterfall), up to driving dancefloor smasher, like Night & Day and Polar, which I of course fancied much more. Especially those tracks were a bit more experimental and developed a very own note. VÖK also played two brand new songs from the upcoming sophomore, set to be released in February 2019. I’m looking forward anyway. Lovely 30 minutes performance and a lovely new discovery.

Setlist: Breaking Bones, In The Darks, Autopilot, Spend The Love, Polar, If I Was, Waterfall, Night & Day

In highest spirits everybody was dying ready the :: EDITORS ::, who kicked off rather gentle with The Boxer. This time there was special stage decoration, just a huge backdrop. Of course, most of the songs were already played in spring, focusing on the new album Violence. But there have been also a few classics, focusing on the debut The Back Room. The one or the other songs might be too soft on CD, but live the EDITORS are a highly energetic force and songs played much more powerful and heavier. This pays off. The set remains dynamic throughout the entire show and keeps the fans dancing. I was dancing the whole show anyway ;) The EDITORS were in best mood too and the show turned out to be much better than in my hometown. Only the audience could have been a bit livelier. No matter if that was a Sunday evening or not.
I anyway was blown away, once again. After my photographic work I went back and positioned myself in the center to experience the full light show and sound, which was brilliant. And danced. At the end of the evening I was not the only one grinning like Cheshire cat. Happy faces everywhere. Now, the Monday lost its grimace. Such a marvelous show gives you good vibes for a whole week ;) If you ask me, the EDITORS are much welcome to play two shows nearby every year from now on ;)
