In
the beginning of the year IN THE NURSERY have
again released a gem, a hauntingly beautiful masterpiece entitled
Era. Now, after a more than 25 years
spanning carrier the twins Nigel and Klive Humberstone still don’t
get tired to release one masterpiece after another. No matter
if you take the soundtrack albums or the regular ones, where electronic
and ambient soundscapes get paired with the beautiful and enchanting
voice of Dolores Marguerite C. And for all in one take Era,
where IN THE NURSERY perfectly merge the best
of their trademarks into a timeless and unique listening experience,
never forgetting early Industrial roots that always shine thru
the energetic and pounding percussion work.
I never saw IN THE NURSERY performing live so
far, but with the release of Era I knew
that there would be a tour coming up and waited for news. And
waited... Spring and summer passed by and with the golden season
I got to know what I wanted to hear :) And yes, the long wait
was it worth!
Apropos
waiting… that seemed to be the motto of this evening ;)
I arrived quite early for an interview... and waited. It was the
first day on tour and things just came slowly together, people
arrived late and problems in soundcheck stretched time. However,
IN THE NURSERY took it calm and serene and me
got supplied with coffee by the KuFa-crew.
Thanks a lot :) But… while sitting and waiting I got to
listen to the sound I have to expect little later. Yeeees…
seems like the Sheffield guys will live up their reputation as
the Gods of bombastic sound ;)

For
this tour no regular tour support was announced. It got handled
it via local single bands. As for this show and another one ~
EGOAMP
~ plugged into the slot. EGOAMP
is the new project of Asmodi Caligari and Cesare Insomnia, inspired
and influenced by – as the pseudonyms already assume –
silent movies such as The Cabinet Of Dr. Caligari. Musically,
however, this duo didn’t went back such long time and got
stuck into the glorious 80’s, breathing and reflecting the
vibes of this era, wrapped in a modern sound rope with distinct
beats, making everybody dancing. With a start-up phase of…
let me say two songs, none was able to elude beats and rhythms
and singer Asmodi had a walk-over mastering the crowd. Many haven’t
heard anything about EGOAMP before, I did neither,
as more surprising and pleasing the positive feedback was. A dark
lightshow and special make-up accompanied the performance of songs
soon to be released on the band’s debut record entitled
Welcome To The Cabinet. Those who cannot
wait might position the ears towards myspace. There can be found
samples of these songs. As more I listen to these songs again
as more they get stuck in my aural chanals. There is much addictiveness
in it! Great show!

Tramp, We Are Freaks, The Cabinet / Sweet Dreams (Medley), The
Veil, The Carnival, Egomanic Maniacs
After
an half hour running change-over the driving rhythms of Blueprint
introduced ~ IN
THE NURSERY ~ who entered the stage under
enthusiastic applause. Yes, the sound was bombastic, fulminant,
captivating, and just grandiose. Not perfectly adjusted, but it
seems to be a general problem in the small hall of the KuFa. However,
small potatoes that didn’t had any bad effect on the listening
pleasure. While Klive was much moving and working behind all his
drums and gongs, Nigel on synths and bass as well as additional
drummer David acted more introverted. Lovely singer Dolores again
was lively strolling allover the stage, singing, performing, drumming
with Klive, drumming with David, playing tambourines and cymbals
and vanishing during the instrumental parts. A little woman with
such a fantastic and mesmerizing voice. From Era
IN THE NURSERY played only three songs, the rest
was kind of a retrospective through the 24 albums spanning history
of the bands, even back till the very beginning in 1983. The audience
was completely thrilled, hardly to stop adoring the band. Thanks
to the small and well-crowded hall a quite intimate and intensive
atmosphere was built up quickly. A private show for friends…
almost. Ya know something very personal, something very special.
Many fans enjoyed listening with closed eyes, swaying in time,
letting thoughts drifting off… It was such a great show!
Definitely one of the highlights this year. Nothing I wanted to
have missed, really.
