[Dajana] The PROPHECY FEST 2023 is in the books. As you can easily see from our writing, it was once again a fantastic festival :)
As mentioned in the intro, there were some innovations, some turned out to be great, like the beer bottled especially for the festival, the bikes, more toilets on the campground and the cultural offers. Other innovations, however, did not work, such as the small stage. I understand the idea behind it, but the stage was not a nice place because of the humidity, the sound (checks) interfered with each other and I can't imagine that it was particularly pleasant for the bands to interrupt their set after they had just warmed up and the audience got going. Furthermore, this meant there was no break between the sets to eat, drink and chat outside. I hope this scenario will not be repeated.
What I also noticed negatively was the fact that visitors in wheelchairs (and there were quite a few) didn't have a fixed place and thus poor visibility conditions. The special area is unfortunately not accessible to wheelchairs because it is elevated and therefore has stairs. That brings me to the comfort pass, also for the special area with the chairs, I didn't quite understand the point of it.
[Seb] I assume that the intention was to avoid excessive crowding in the manageable seating area by charging an extra fee for this (unfortunately, none of the helping hands on guard could tell me exactly...)? After all, with proof of a handicap/disability you didn't need a comfort pass to get into this area and sit down.
[Dajana] There were also problems at the festival check-in, which was "outsourced". It didn't run smoothly and later, the EC card reader broke, which led to hours of delays in the merchandise. Well, it can happen, maybe have another device in reserve next year.
[Seb] The record from “queuing to checkout” on Friday was probably over three hours - I don't know whether the most sought-after things were already sold out on Saturday, but it was more like three minutes from the afternoon onwards...
[Dajana] Luckily, there is a lively community around the festival and attentive listeners and readers on the organization side, so the pros and cons will certainly be heard this year ;) And of course, I'm already looking forward to next year! The first bands have already been announced (see below) and ticket sales have begun. See you next year in September in the cave ♥
[Seb] I am forever indebted to Dajana for encouraging me to take time off and book a room this year. The PROPHECY FEST is definitely something that every (extreme) metal fan should take part in: there is a reason why guests and “helping hands” come from all over the world and from all continents. And even if someone didn't like any of the bands at all, it was still worth it because of the spectacular location and the atmosphere at the festival.
See you hopefully in 2024!
