A
ride to Cologne by car on a Friday evening is sort of a driver’s
suicide. But… due to some clever advanced planning I made
it to the Werkstatt
on time avoiding all traffic jams and other chaos on the highways.
Me proud – perfect timing :) NOT! For almost an hour the
organizers let us stood in the cold, legions of fans, perfectly
queued. By the way… do they all really fit into this small
club???

I heard that
there would be a support band, but I could not find anything announced
in this matter. But yes, there was one, a Berlin-based duo known
as :: HERZFEIND
:: With a side blow on Heidi Klum they entered the
stage kicking off with Bulimieshow. Sorry to say this,
but musically they were as terrible as their name already implied.
I don’t know how to label the music, maybe with new German
Electronic heaviness? Male part of this duo is no one else then
former Dreadful Shadows guitarist André Feller, his female
counterpart is Juliane Richter. Both for sure much likeable, but
on stage it did not work the best way, neither musically, nor
voice-like or regarding the performance. But hey, HERZFEIND
just started into this new venture. Leaving with the Ton Steine
Scherben cover version Mach kaputt was Dich kaputt macht
they at least received some complaisant applause.
Setlist: Bulimieshow, Bitter, Fort von hier, Sucht,
babel brennt, Aufstehn, Mach kaputt was Dich kaputt macht (Ton
Steine Scherben)
Right from
the beginning there was no doubt for whom the fans took the effort
to fill this club :: ZEROMANCER
:: Hardly to believe, but all people seen outside got
in and the Werkstatt was not sold out ;) Ok, it was very packed
and with the support leaving the stage everybody pushed closer
to the stage. ZEROMANCER meanwhile took it very easy. I
guess, since it was the first day of the tour there were still
things to go haywire. However, time has come and the audience
welcomed the guys on stage with loud screams and enthusiastically
waved Norwegian flags. Latest with the second track Doppelgänger
I Love You the crowd went wild. Singer Alex Møklebust
emerged as a fidget, did not stand still any second, jumping and
balancing on his monitor speaker and almost bursting of energy.
Ok, good for me since I was not any close to the stage to take
some better photos. Even more aggressive bass player Kim Ljung
acted. I guess I never saw them like this. That was pure energy
on a level making the inmost of the sun looking pale ;) To make
this evening really special ZEROMANCER played songs they
did not for ages like Famous Last Words (last time played
live 8 years ago), or Mint, sung by Alex all alone, and
the hardly ever heard House Of Cards. Guess what, the audience
was totally freaking out, demanding everything from the band ;)
Encore screams and chants were so massive that the regular encore
was not enough. Nope, the band had to come back again, after a
2 hrs lasting show and released the fans with Cupola into
the cold night. What a show, what an atmosphere. Incredible! Awesome!
Grandiose!
