Four years after In My Fragile…,Latvian-born singer and pianist VIC ANSELMO returns with a new album. Four years, in which she was quite active and often seen live on stage, playing her own shows, as well as being a live keyboarder and guest singer for renowned bands and musicians. She also took part in collaborations including even Jazz and Swing excursions.
All those experiences made over the last years can be detected on the new album as VIC ANSELMO has much developed and made substantial progress.
Who Disturbs The Water is a piano dominated singer/songwriter album, with discreet percussions and string arrangements. But it is the beautiful singing of VIC ANSELMO, which dominates this record and makes it so special. Strong-voiced and manifold she gives soul and warmth to every song and fills melodies with emotions. Just listen to the lively Another Train and Every Time You Come Around. Say You and the stunning Cody develop a James Bond song kind of epicness, while songs such as Flawless and Daylight are rather quiet and solemn. A musical-like kind of craziness as on the predecessor cannot be found on this one, but the cinematic character remained.
As the album title implies, Who Disturbs The Water lyrically revolves around water - water as a symbol of transformation, adaptation, power and clarity. This album reflects on the big and the small changes in life, displays emotions without pathos and a grown seriousness without to suppress the vitality and vivacity of the singer.
Who Disturbs The Water is a wonderful album and another landmark in the career of this exceptionally gifted and skilled singer and songwriter. With a playing time of 36 minutes this album is just too short.
