„She
boss can’t master the cup“ [BRT]
[Dajana]
Our weekend begins with common travel things. Totally relaxed we
arrive earlier than last year and avoid the queues at the gate to
hell ;) No traffics, ergo more time, more fun and most of all more
punch :)
[BRT] Yes, even at the entry there was no rush. Tents got
quickly built, the first beer drunk and then the punch to get on
the operating temperature. It is rumored that certain persons got
knocked out by this…

And here we are, on time, united and raring to go. While fans slowly
flow in :: BOMBS
OF HADES :: open the festival and welcome us with
bone-crushing old school Swedish Death Metal. Ah yes, how I missed
that! The ceremony has begun :)
[BRT] Sounds like classic Swedish Death Metal and the sound
isn’t the best but BOMBS OF HADES grows with every
new song. I like their Motörhead and Crustcore tinged music.
[Dajana]
Excellent avant-garde Black Metal follows with ::
FARSOT
:: I was skeptic at first if such complex and conceptual
music would work on a big open air stage with the sun shining but
FARSOT did a great job conjuring an intriguing atmosphere.
[BRT] On CD I like FARSOT a lot. But here I think
no real atmosphere gets built up. The stage is too big and it is
too light. Excellent musicians they are, indeed!
[Dajana]
Same goes for :: DENIAL
OF GOD :: who already convinced me with their show
at Rock Hard Festival. Again the music focused much on atmosphere
instead of shredding guitars. Melodic Black Metal with a touch of
Merciful Fate in it. Great!
[BRT] Great! Black Metal meets grumpy NWOBHM. Their record
is superb, their show is superb. DENIAL OF GOD manage to
bring their very own style of music and atmosphere on stage.
[Dajana]
Atmosphere is still the magical word and got hold up, some Black
Metal relations too. :: ALCEST
:: put a spell on us in a twinkling of an eye with hauntingly
beautiful and ethereal melodies and gentle singing. Sooo intense
and mesmerizing *sighs*.
[Seda] I so wish it would have been darker now. But, well,
you can close your eyes and listen to ALCEST instead. Such
a great mood though, and Neige’s velvet voice… I was
really happy to hear so many songs from the current album Les
Voyages De L'Âme.
[BRT] 3 times Black Metal, 3 times music that couldn’t
differ more. Well, at ALCESTs music Black Metal remains marginal.
Their sound is nowadays a blend of melancholic Shoegaze the Brits
brought to perfection in the 80s. Great sound actually, perfectly
suiting the sundown and a nice alternation :)
[Seda]
I never saw :: CARPATHIAN
FOREST :: and was much excited to catch them finally,
and curious what kind Nattefrost would be on stage. At the end it
was a surprisingly… calm show…
[Dajana] Yes. One could say that Nattefrost and co. played
a well-behaved set. No utterly drunkenness on stage, no staggering
and babbling musicians, no antics. Just quiet… so to say…
[BRT] A quiet show??? Maybe I was already comatose…
but I found the music rather gruffy and bumpy, somehow Motörhead-tinged,
but also quite pale, rather weak and boring…
[Dajana] Quiet in the sense of no scandals…
[BRT]
The festival wouldn’t have any poorer without ::
LEGION
OF THE DAMNED :: Boring as usual. Time to get more
beer.
[Dajana] Erm… I realize some memory gaps… Only
the fires I can remember…
[Seda] Just wondering if you need to have this kind of L‘Oréal
hair to be part of the band and fan-base…
[BRT] *sings* „Ihr habt die Haare schön, ihr habt
die Haare schön“… Sorry, that’s all I kept
in mind from this show. Uninspired brutal Thrash without any recognition
value, not to mention melodies. If you do it the Slayer-style…
then do it right, ok?
[Dajana]
While we all drift into drunken oblivion let me say that ::
HEAVEN
SHALL BURN :: is for sure a successful band and a
great live band that easily enthuses every Metal affine fan as it
was really crowded now on the festival area but I had other desires…
Liquid and hoppy ones…
[BRT] After an endless change-over… the first headliner:
HEAVEN SHALL BURN. A great show, without doubt, but the music
is too dull to me, did nothing for me and went on nerves quickly.
Sorry, but this band was misplaced.
[Dajana]
And that’s the way the first festival day ends. The NH
crew is in high spirits and collectively kicks over the traces.
No blackouts this time, just some gaps… and grinning we got
between the blankets, one after another…
[BRT] No blackouts this time? Well, you did not experience
yourself… ;)
